Lions QB Dan Orlovsky not giving up yet

Decides to wait on surgery

BY NICHOLAS J. COTSONIKA • FREE PRESS SPORTS WRITER • November 13, 2008

Quarterback Dan Orlovsky has not given up on the season, despite two fractures and a torn ligament in his right thumb. The Lions have not given up on him yet, either.

“I’m not going to get surgery,” Orlovsky said Wednesday. “I’m going to try and do everything I can not to have surgery. I’m going to give it time to let it heal on its own, and we’ll reassess it in a couple weeks.”

Not only have the Lions not put Orlovsky on injured reserve, they have released quarterback Drew Henson, leaving them with Orlovsky, Daunte Culpepper and Drew Stanton for the time being.

Henson was released Wednesday to make room on the 53-man roster for punt returner/wide receiver Adam Jennings, whom the Lions claimed off waivers from Atlanta. If Henson passes through waivers, the Lions could sign him to their practice squad.
